Dani at Animal Friends Insurance has just sent us an email with a New Year Press Release.

She says "Firstly, I hope that you had a happy and peaceful festive season and would like to wish you all the best for 2010!

With the New year upon us, I'm sure many have been making (and maybe already breaking) resolutions which we hope will in some way improve our lives or indeed us as people. I wonder how many of us spare a thought for our pets and how we can help them?"

Boiler scrappage scheme

Came across this piece on the 8th January 2010 issued by The National Landlords Association - NLA entitled
"Boiler scrappage scheme details announced"

The government has published details of the new boiler scrappage scheme. Landlords can get £400 off a new A-rated boiler or renewable heating system, when they scrap their old G-rated boiler.

The scheme is designed to help households cut carbon emissions, save money on fuel bills and sustain work for the heating industry:

£400 cash back vouchers available from the Energy Saving Trust
Open to all landlords, tenants and homeowners in England
Old boiler must be the main boiler to heat the home and G-rated or worse
Currently capped at 125,000 households
No limit on the number of applications landlords can make
To obtain a voucher, landlords must get a quote and then apply through the Energy Saving Trust. Vouchers will be valid for 12 weeks from date of issue. Landlords will need to pay for the new boiler and installation up front and then claim the cash back by sending the invoice and voucher to the Energy Saving Trust. Installations made before receipt of the voucher will not be eligible.

For more details about the scheme and to apply please visit the Energy Saving Trust website or call 0800 512 012. The website can also help you identify if your boiler is G-rated and other grants and discounts available.

The Welsh, Northern Irish and Scottish Assemblies and Governments will be considering whether they want to introduce similar schemes.

Direct Travel Insurance provides ski accident stats

Insurance Daily has today reported that "Direct Travel Insurance provides ski accident stats"

The report says"Interest in skiing holidays may rise due to the prolonged wintery conditions, particularly as some French ski operators are cutting prices.

Direct Travel Insurance has reported that the Association of Mountain Doctors in France (Médecins de Montagne Résultats Nationaux 2008/2009) dealt with 140,000 injuries last year incurred on such holidays.

Amongst these were 16,439 collisions on slopes, with poorly adjusted boots and inadequate preparation to blame for the most severe knee injuries.

The Mountain Doctors have advised skiers to seek professional advice about the weather prior to skiing, especially when going off-piste, and to let someone else know where you are going if skiing solo.

In addition, the fitness required to ski or snowboard make three weeks physical preparation (or more) a good idea, and helmets are a must.

Travel insurance should cover Medical & Air ambulance costs, £2m personal liability, UK physiotherapy and Piste closure cover.

The advice echoes that the firm offered in October 2009 when Direct Travel Insurance stated that personal liability, physiotherapy, “Ski pack” cover (to cover the cost of ski school fees if injured) and Piste closure cover should all be included when getting insurance for a skiing holiday."
